Go Chiefs!

Why Are Conservatives So Afraid of Taylor Swift?

With the news media giving so much coverage to Trump, isn't it refreshing to see someone in popular entertainment with some political savvy and convictions to see the political reality, have a sense of what people might be thinking and who are not afraid to let their personal convictions show, not in an overbearing or imposing way, but in a more subtle, very clear manner?

Swift's sound really resonated with me when it had a little bit more of a country flair to it.  I think, perhaps, "Red" is my all time favorite.  But "Delicate" also really puts me in a good mood.

When I played in a fantasy football league, for two years I drafted Travis Kelce, and he turned out to be one of the more productive players in terms of the points.  I hadn't been too much of a Chiefs fan, but why not?  If conservatives can be so divisive and antagonistic as to turn football and pop music into culture war tools, then I might as well cheer for someone who represents my political perspective, too.  Go Chiefs!

Actually, my politics aren't really influenced by pop culture and entertainment.  But I'll be happy to go along on this for the ride.  Swift is popular, in the hundreds of millions range.  If her endorsement of a candidate gets votes, why not?  It's a free country.

This is an example of just how divisive, anti-patriotic and anti-American political conservatives, mainly the MAGA crowd and the Christian nationalists have become.  They are unable to tolerate thinking that isn't the same as theirs, particularly if it is going to help the other side.  The first couple of primaries of the election season, and the news in the current cycle has really shown that the dreamland many of them were living in is not real.  Goodness, even Nikki Haley has awakened to the fact that Trump is an enemy of America and democracy and everything we stand for, and he is mentally and emotionally incapable of holding office.  Swift, Kelce and the Chiefs are just one more thing against which they can vent their frustration and lash out.

Jiggling With Rage, Trump's Jealousy of Swift's Popularity is a Trigger

While this gives the politically obsessed something to talk about, it's not really going to change anything.  Reality is what it is, Americans are fascinated with celebrities, Swift is at the height of her popularity and Kelce is one of the players who give the Chiefs, one of the better teams in the NFL, their identity.  The MAGA crowd is attracted to, and picks up on Trump's inability to tolerate someone getting more attention than he does, and when he lashes out, so do they.  It's a pitiful display of a deplorable lack of self-confidence, the epitome of narcissism.

With these kinds of reactions to things, Trump and his shriveling MAGA cult give their opponents a game plan to take him down and out.  They know how to push buttons and turn him into a blob of jello, quaking with rage and unable to spit out a coherent thought.  That doesn't hurt his support with his MAGA following, but they need a whole lot more than that to win a national election, or make a difference in Congressional elections.  And it is clearly hurting him with just about every other group of voters.

It's fun to watch and it makes me feel very confident about where this 2024 election is going to wind up.  In the meantime, I wish Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs good luck.  And I hope Swift does a great job with her endorsement of Biden.
