What value can be found in the achievement of political ends outside the Constitution, which all candidates for office are sworn to uphold?
That event, and the fact that most of those who support Trump and his extremism do not see it as a crime, as an insurrection, as an attack on the Constitution or as illegal and unconstitutional clearly makes them enemies of the American idealism that is reflected in what we refer to as Constitutional Rule of Law. They have crossed a line into territory that violates the oath those who serve in public office have taken. It's no surprise that they have done so, their leader, Trump, has proven to the whole world that he does not have one ounce of integrity in his character or physical body. He is morally bankrupt and his word is meaningless.
It is not possible to defend the Constitution by violating the Constitution.
Let's be clear, right wing conservatism has abandoned every value it once laid claim to defending, in order to try and hang on to power. Trump embodies every "sin" they once claimed to crusade against, including being a pathological liar about everything he talks about, an adulterer and misogynist, a convicted felony rapist, a business fraud and cheat, who's moral bankruptcy spits in the face and who's denial of respect for his primary constituency's religious beliefs and practice makes them pathetic hypocrites.
The moral high ground, along with the defense of, and fidelity to patriotic American values, and to the Constitution and the rule of law belongs to any part of the left that is opposed to Trump's regime and is doing all it can to resist supporting or enabling it.
Everything Trump is Doing Can be Defined as Tyranny
He is subverting the Constitution and its provisions for separation of powers with his lawless executive orders and with the support of members of a Congress who are not upholding their oath to defend the Constitution of the United States. He has crossed lines against rulings of the Judicial branch. He has crossed a lot of lines using power he does not have, leaving those who are affected by his illegal actions scrambling to pay for attorneys and file lawsuits.
I just want to put a question out here, and see if there is someone who can come up with an answer. He has been ordered, by more than one federal court, to facilitate bringing home Kilmar Abrego Garcia, including getting him out of the prison camp in El Salvador, and bringing him back to the United States. He's been threatened by judges. "You must execute this order now." Then he doesn't do it, so another court comes along and says, "We mean it this time." And then again, "Come on, you have to do this, so when are you going to do it?"
And Kilmar Abrego Garcia is still in El Salvador.
As an American citizen, one who upholds the rule of law, respects, knows and believes in it, along with the Constitution and the limits it imposes on government, I am highly offended that judicial officers in this country will not enforce the law against this man. He's committed more felonies, and been indicted for more, than almost anyone else inside the criminal justice system. But he blows them off, attacks judges who don't do what he wants, and gets away with it.
So our renegade Supreme Court made an unconstitutional ruling about President immunity. I have a suggestion as to how we can handle this error, and take back the power to which they have laid claim, clearly an unconstitutional violation of the rule of law. Why isn't this guy in jail? This doesn't meet the conditions set by the Supreme Court for presidential immunity. Any ordinary American would be in jail for defying a court order, so why the hell isn't he?
Yeah, that's a rhetorical question, but I'll answer it. Because this is what real tyranny looks like.
Follow the Constitution, Defend the Constitution and Uphold the Constitution
There is nothing Trump is doing that is causing more damage to this country than his defiance of the law, which is showing just how weak our system is in its ability to uphold, protect and defend its Constitution. The Democratic party's response seems to be to use this confusion and this crushing inability to take action as a means of raising money for their own individual campaigns to try and win an election in 2026 while holding a 29% approval rating in the polls that everyone believes is absolute truth.
That's exactly why opposition and resistance to Trump tyranny is turning to other leadership. That's why Bernie Sanders and AOC are drawing tens of thousands of people in red congressional districts to protest against a broken political and legal system. That's why David Hogg is having such success raising money for a whole new slate of candidates who will commit to protecting and defending the Constitution. That's why people like Illinois Governor J. D. Pritzker are positioning themselves among those taking a hard line stand against the Trump administration.
It's not 1974. I was a junior in high school then, when public pressure over massive, incredible corruption by a President of the United States convinced enough members of his own party to make open commitments to vote for his removal of office in the event he was impeached by the house. Those commitments, in turn, put enough pressure on Richard Milhous Nixon to force him to step down from the Presidency.
There are those who say that getting the same result from Republicans now, given their lack of integrity and how many of them are more MAGA than GOP, is impossible. That's one of the Constitutional avenues open to us, aside from simply waiting around to see if we can win the mid-terms in 2026. We can, but we'll have to do something to get above a 29% job approval rate. In the meantime, we will watch justice in America implode and our legal system become a fatality of tyranny.
In the meantime, I'll fail to pay any speeding tickets or red light camera tickets and see how well that works.
